The contractor is requesting an extension of 71 days; Mr. Moore reported that he felt an extension of 62 days would be justified. He also suggested that the contract be changed to reflect the number of working days allowed rather than a completion date, because the start up date will depend upon when road restrictions are lifted in the spring. Mr. Moore also reported that the contractor has responsibility for any construction-related problems which occur over the winter, and this should be included in the change order. Mayor Abrahamson invited comments from the audience. Carol Ryden, representing the Downtown Merchants, stated that the contractor's request was submitted too late, and cannot be allowed. City Attorney Magnuson stated that he feels the contractor's request appears reasonable. [' Motion by Councilmember Bodlovick, seconded by Councilmember Farrell to approve a time extension of 60 working days for completion of the downtown construction project, beginning on the date the road weight restrictions are lifted.
