HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-03-10 BOWC MIN Stillwater, Minnesota March 10, 2016 Regular Meeting: The regular meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners was held on Thursday March 10, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. All Commissioners were present, with President Speedling presiding. Also present was Tom Corman, Council Member Menikheim. On motion of President Speedling, duly seconded by Commissioner Vania, all voting “Aye”, the Agenda was accepted as presented. On motion of Commissioner Nyberg, duly seconded by President Speedling, all voting “Aye, the minutes of the February 11, 2016 regular meeting were read and approved as written. On motion of Commissioner Nyberg, duly seconded by President Speedling, all voting “Aye”, Resolution No. 1486 was approved for payment. Tom Corman reported to the Board that Congresswomen Betty McCollum toured the Water Department as part of her day in Stillwater on Tuesday March 8, 2016. There have been only two watermain breaks this year, they will be starting spring clean up and working with Brochman Blacktopping to repair streets from the watermain breaks and yard work at Well #10 after rehab has been completed. Manager Benson informed the Board that there is $6,500.00 in the 2016 Capital Outlay Budget for Lily Lake Tank painting specs, he will be working with TKDA on this project, therefore on motion of President Speedling, duly seconded by Commissioner Vania, all voting “Aye, the painting specs were approved not to exceed a cost of $6,500.00 The following items were discussed, with no action taken: 1. Accounts receivable balance as of February 29, 2016 was $123,802.11 with the actual amount being $192,083.74; this is $27,000.00 higher than last years. 2. Commissioner Vania brought up the Bee Lawn Presentation on Friday May 13th, 2016. Manager Benson will contact Laurie Schneider with the Pollinator Friendly Alliance and verify the location. 3. Manager Benson updated the Board after he and Commissioner Vania met with Bolton & Menk. 4. Manager Benson informed the Board that the Water Department was included in the City of Stillwater’s Classification/Compensation Study along with the Library. 5. Manager Benson informed the Board that the field work for the audit was th completed on February 22nd, 23nd, and 24. Chris Knopik, with CliftonLarsonAllen, will be at the April board meeting to go through the audit. 6. Manager Benson informed the Board that the Fluoride Variance was approved by the Minnesota Department of Health. The new range will be between .5 - .9mg/l with an average concentration of .7mg/l. In order to lower the amount of fluoride added to the water system, new fluoride pumps may need to be purchased. 7. Commissioner Vania provided the Board with a summary of the Lead & Copper testing over the past 15 years. All tests where below the 90% levels set by the Minnesota Department of Health. 8. Manager Benson updated the Board on the repairs at Well #10 and the booster pump #2 at Well #11. 9. The Thursday April 14, 2016 Board Meeting was rescheduled to Thursday April 21, 2016 at 8:30 A.M. There being no further business, on motion of Commissioner Nyberg, duly seconded by President Speedling, all voting “Aye”, the meeting was adjourned. Attest: Secretary
