HomeMy WebLinkAbout1125 Ord (Section 33-5: Minimum Standards for Construction and Reconstruction of Driveways) ORDINANCE 1125 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 33-5 OF THE STILLWATER CITY CODE The City Council of the City of Stillwater does ordain: SECTION 1.AMENDMENT. Section 33-5 City Code,Minimum standards for construction and reconstruction of driveways, is hereby amended as follows: Sec. 33-5 -Minimum standards for construction and reconstruction of driveways. Subd. 1. Purpose. It is the purpose of this section to establish minimum standards for the construction and reconstruction of driveways within the city. Subd. 2.Standards. The minimum standards are as follows: (1) For the construction of residential driveways: a. Driveway Width.The maximum driveway width at the back of curb (or edge of street if no curb exists) is 20 feet. For driveways being rebuilt, the maximum width at back of curb (or edge of street if no curb exists) is 20 feet or the width of the existing driveway,whichever is greater. b. Surfacing Material. i. Concrete driveways: Four inches of compacted sand and five inches of concrete; ii. Bituminous driveways: Four inches of Class 5 gravel and two inches of bituminous; iii. Paver driveways:A minimum of six inches of Class 5 gravel and one inch of sand. (2) For the construction of commercial driveways: a. Concrete driveways: Four inches of compacted sand and six inches of concrete; b. Blacktop driveways: Four inches of Class 5 and four inches of bituminous. (3)Any sand or aggregate base should be compacted to 100 percent of the Standard Proctor Density. SECTION 2. SUMMARY PUBLICATION. Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, §412.191, in the case of a lengthy ordinance, a summary may be published. While a copy of the entire ordinance is available without cost at the office of the City Clerk, the following summary is approved by the City Council and shall be published in lieu of publishing the entire ordinance: The ordinance sets clearer minimum standards for the construction of residential driveways. SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be effective after its passage and publication according to law. Approved this 4th day of June, 2019.
