HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-12-17 PRC minutesCITY OF STILLWATER PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING December 17, 2018 Present: Chairwoman Linda Amrein, Commissioners David Brandt, Bill McGlynn, Sam Nelson, Sandy Snellman, Council Representative Mike Polehna Absent: Rob McGarry, Scott Christensen Staff: Public Works Superintendent Tim Moore APPROVAL OF MINUTES Possible approval of November 26, 2018 meeting minutes Motion by Commissioner Nelson seconded by Commissioner Brandt to approve the November 26, 2018 meeting minutes with changes as noted. Motion passed, 5-0. OPEN FORUM There were no public comments. ACTION ITEMS Settler’s Glen HOA Request for Ice Rinks in Prairie Park Public Works Superintendent Moore explained that the Settler’s Glen HOA has request that Ice Rinks be constructed in Prairie Park. This would consist of 2 rinks 1 for recreational skating and 1 with boards for hockey. Commissioner Nelson had some concerns about spending that much money on rinks in a park without good access for the general public. Commissioner Nelson also questioned the need for rinks with Northland Park just down Boutwell Road. Commissioner McGlynn stated he would like to know what the HOA would be willing to contribute financially. Commissioner Snellman requested that that the HOA be invited back to discuss with commission, all commissioners agreed. Commissioner Nelson stated that need to look at the overall need for parks. Commissioner Brandt agreed with that statement. Chairwoman Amrein stated that she liked the ballfield. All commissioners agreed it would be helpful to have an idea of what proposed projects are in the future and what costs would associated with them. Public Works Superintendent Moore said that he would provide the 5 year CIP at the next meeting and that he would contact the HOA and Invite them back for the January meeting. Motion by Commissioner Brandt, seconded by Commissioner Snellman to table the discussion and invite the Settler’s Glen HOA back to the January meeting for more information. All in favor, 5-0. Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting December 17, 2018 Page 2 of 2 INFORMATION ITEMS Council Representative Polehna noted that the Curling event is going forward for January 19th and 20th. The City Council approved the 2019 Budget at their December 18th 2018 meeting. He is also working with MNDOT on lighting the bridge and concourse. Council Representative Polehna stated that he has been meeting with groups about the need for a pool. Commissioner Brandt stated that there is a need for a regional pool on the east side of the cities. Commissioner Snellman raised some concerns about the speed and alignment of Maryknoll at Myrtle. Public Works Superintendent Moore said he would bring it up at staff level. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Commissioner Snellman seconded by Commissioner McGlynn to adjourn. All in favor, 5-0.
