HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
JUNE C, I,388
Present: Marlene Workman, Terry Alliband, Maury Stenerson, Shirley Tibbetts,
Maureen Lodge, Dick Z= -"
Others: Ann Pung-Terwedo
Mr. and Mrs. Mike McGuire
1. Mike McGuire and his wife graciously attended the Heritage Preservation
Commission meeting and discussed the Commander Elevator Project. He gave
the reasoning behind its particular new use. The first floor will be
retail, second floor office and a third floor penthouse. He stated that
this us would be most economically feasible because of the costs to
rehabilitate the elevator into a usable space. If funds could be
contributed, Mr. McGuire would much prefer to use the elevator as a
Visitors Center or a scenic overlook. Another issue which Mr. McGuire
discussed was the metal siding. If this siding could be preserved or
replaced, he would prefer it. However, the costs may not be economically
feasible. The Commission discussed the historic significance of the
elevator and the agricultural influence on Stillwater.
2. The historic grant for the CBD survey has been approved by the State
Historical Society. Now the Federal Government (Department of Interior)
must approve the grant and draw up the contracts.
3. Jeff Hess will be visiting Stillwater sometime this summer to field study
the Stillwater/Houlton Bridge. He will contact the City on his arrival
day. Ann will contact Commission members when Jeff plans to visit
Stillwater.
Respectfully submitted,
Ann Pung-Terwedo
