In the city jail for the accommodation of boys and females, was on motion Of Alderman
Glaser accepted and referred to the Building Committee.
Report Of the Minnesota P11'e Prevention Association, was reed and on motion of
Alderman }Ling, was accepted, and referred to the City Fire Marshall, with instructions
to observe the same.
Report of receipts of the Clerk of Municipal court was on motion of Alderman
Glaser accepted and referred to the Finance^Oo.mlttee.
Treasurers report of receipts and disbursements for the month of December and hie
financial statement for the month ending Dec, 31, were on motion of Alderman Ring
accepted and referred to the F1nanee Committee.
Health officers annual report of inspection oe City jail was on motion of
Alderman Murphy, accepted and ordered filed.
The Mayor arrived at this tine and stated that the Army Engineers would have a
meeting at Duluth 1n the near future, End he desired to have the Council take some
action with reference to the canal project, and the Council adopted the following
resolution t0 be signed by the members of the Council,and to be presented to said
body at their meeting;
•Resolved by the City Council of the City of ftillwa-ter,Minnesota, that in their
0 opinion the project of the proposed canal from Lake superior through either the
Brule or Amnuicon river via the rt. Croix river is corWterclally feasible, and if
the canal be constructed, 1t will not only be specially beneficial to the in—
habitants of the Dortrwest,but will be of great advantage to all the people of
the United states.
Be it further resolved, that in their opinion it would be wise t0 expend,
1f necessary, the whole son of #50,000 aprroprlated by Congress for a survey
of such proposed canal."

exercise more care in Lhe use of the plow in the future.
