All members of the Council present. Minutes of meetinr held Dec. l6tb 193o read and approved. Report of City of receipts dnd disbursements for the month of Deoember,1930, read and arderetfiled. City Clerk submitted a reprt of receipts and disbursements for the year 1930, and same was ordered filed. Annual report of the Chief of the Fire Department was read and on motion of Councilman Lavine the same was ordered filed. Communication from State Treasurer certifying that bond # 13 of the Oity of Stillwater in the sum of $2000.00 was paid in full and hie records show that the same was mailed to the County Treasurer on June 19 ,1930. Contract and bond of Lyman Sutton for plowing snow during the doming winter was on motion of Councilmen approved and ordered filed. Resolution directing the payment of bills was duly adopted. Regular Meeting; Mayor elect,Peter 0. Lund and Counoilmen elect Charles Christianson and Alpert Taylor paving heretofore taken and rubeeribed the oath of office as required by law,eacb assumed their seats. Oaths of office filed. Meeting called to order by President Lund; Roll call showed the following .-resent. Councilmen Christianson, McLaughlin, Ryden and Taylor and President Lund. President Lund in his rddrese outlined his idea of what could be expected of the new administration. On motion of Councilman Ryden Soft Drinks licenses were granted to The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co,. William Retzlaff, Carlson & Olson,Edblom Drug Co.,H. N. Stewart,Jos. P. Eichten,Frank A. Mitchell,A. A. Fraser,Clayton Needs, Joe MarloW,Margaret Carlson,Carl W. Meieter,0. L. Anderson,Ries Drug Co., Mrs. R. B. Neiss,John M. Ertle,John Lustig,Mrs. Anna Gelhar,alendon N. Lynch, Vict;r serglund,Jobn L. Monty,James Thompson,Frank C. Robinson,Stillwater Lodge No. 179, B. P. 0. E.,Florenoe E. Na11,Percy Sherrard and Frank Callahan. The Trdstees of the Firemen Relief Fund suomitted their annual renort, and on motion of Councilman McLaughlin the same was accepted and ordered filed and the City Attorney was instructed tp present same to the District Court for approval. Councilman John McLaughlin was elected Vice President or the Counctl,on motion of Councilman Ryden. The City Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for legal publications for the ensiling year,bids to be returnable at the next meeting of the Council. On motion•of Councilman McLaughlin the Chief of the Fire Department was instructed to have an appraisal made of the fire loss at the Fire Department building which occurred the Sth inet. On motion of Councilman McLaughlin, The offer of Frank W. Schmidt to allow the City to continue using the present dumping groind at the price of $17.00 per month was accepted for the time being. The Mayor recon:a.ended that the widening of North Third Street from Myrttle to Mulberry Street be acted on and on motion of Councilman McLaughlin the City Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for said work and submit the same at the next regular meeting. The Mayor advocated placing the City Employees on street work be placed on an eight blur basis, but no action was taken. The Mayor directed the Chief of Police to submit a plan at the nett meeting to put the police force on an eight hour basic,and also directed the Chief of The -Fire Department to submit a statement at the next meeting regarding the needs of that department to bring it tp to the highest degree of efficiency. Councilman Taylor arrived at this time and the Council took a renege to consider the bids for City printing. _ Council returned and resumed their respective sents,and on motivn of Cnincilman Taylor the contrast was avowed to the Stillwater Gazette. All members of the Council present; The President stated the punose of the meetin: was to have a hearing on the proposition of widening Ro.Third Street from Myrtle street to Mulberry Street, Several parties interested in the property along the proposed improvement were heard and there seemed to be no objection to the improvement and further action was deferred until the next regular meeting of the Council. The Mayor announced the anointment of Theodore R. Luecken as a policeman and on motion of Councilman McLaughlin the etpointment was confirmed. Oath of office of Theodore R. Luecken filed. On motion of Councilman Ryden Soft Drink licenses were granted to King Bros., gaily Owens, Edgard J. Bloom and Barry Barnholdt. On motion of Councilman McLaughlin a pluu;oers license was granted to F. E. Wyse' and hie bond annroved. Contract of BAston-uasterman Co., with bond attached for doing the legal publications of the City for the ensuing, year was presented and on motion of Councilman Christianson the same were approved. Department budding were opened Bids for painting etc, at the Fire De.p and read as follows; Rap. Roy 305.00• Mohr Bros. $88.50; Charles A Dahlberg $71.65; Larson A Jacobson $74.00; Roy Cates $110.50; Frank Reutiranr. $BC.00. On motion of Councilman McLaughlin the contract was awarded to Bap. Roy, be being the lowest bidder. Report of the City Clerk for the month of January and reoprt of — the City Treasurer for the year 1930 were read and ordered filed. City Engineer reported that several street lights had been changed to new locations and that the lights had been installed at the skatinr rink immediately south of the so-called Gilbert Plant.
