WHEREAS, the aities of Ruhpolding, BavaPia, West Germany, and Stillwater,
Minnesota, U.S.A., aPe free-standing communities of compaPable size and
similarly attractive for tourist, winter sports and water activities; and
WHEREAS, in its 140 yeaPs of existence, the City of Stillwater has drawn
much of its development strength from residents of German descent, many
from the State of Bavaria; and

WHEREAS, there continues a strong bond between these two aPeas of our countries
by cultuJ'al exchange and visitation by tourist and student groups to Ola'
mutual benefit; and

WHEREAS, the appearance in concert of the Minnesota State Band in Ruhpolding,
Bavaria, on this date provides a unique opportunity to make more meaningful
the future exchange between Ola' cities of students, visitors, and cultural
groups by establishment of a sister aity relationship;

NOW, THEREFORE, On behalf of the people of Stillwater, Minnesota, U.S.A.,
and the City Counail, I proclaim Sunday, AUfJust 3, 1988, as Ruhpolding
Bavaria, West Germany Day in this community and declare that by mutual
agreement of the respective governing bodies we shall hereafter be recognized
as sister cities, and encourage all Germans and Americans to utilize that
relationship to the fullest.
