Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Roll call showed 10 members of commission present. Absent, Glenn Johnston. Mr. Johnston was out of town. Present at the meeting were James Simpson, Bob Tennant, John Jewell, Dean Cha.rlsen of the City Council; City Engineer, Ron Ehlinger; Mr. Walter Schultz, Deputy Commissioner of Minnesota. State Rig-lawa,y Department; Tom Hodne, Community Planning & Design Associates. Approximately twenty interested citizens were in attendance. Two non-conforming permits were considered, by the Commission at the request of the City Council. The first request was from Stenseng & Fierke for a, non-conforming permit to build and operate a gasoline service station in the residential area. Mr. Hodne had requested additional time to investigate the area under consideration before making a recommendation to the commission. Chairman Stennes asked if interested parties cared to comment on the subject in question. Opinions were expressed by Mr. Fierke, Mr. Stenseng, Mr. Stieger, Mrs. giolba.ssa. and Mr. Hodne. Questions were asked by several members. of the commission. No action was taken and the request was laid over until �eb. 8th. Mr. Hodne then made a review of progress of the first phase of an overall comprehensive plan for the City of Stillwater. This consisted of four (4) mapd of the City: 1. Existtng map 2. Location of buildings (Res. commercial, multiple dwell. end industrial) 3. Condition of existing buildings 4 . Traffic flow as pertaining to city thoroughfares. Following Mr. Hodne, Mr. ,Vatter Schultz, Deputy Commissioner of Highways for the State of Minnesota spoke on the highway- program and presented a plan of a proposed through highway bypassing the main street of the city. Mr. Schultz stressed the fact that this plan: was only one of several possible solutions to the City's traffic problem. The possibility of raising one span of the interstate bridge to allow passage of boat traffic was considered. A number of questions were directed to Mr. Schultz by interested parties. Mr. Schultz suggested that local groups contact and work with the state highway department so that a satisfactory solution to the traffic problem may be accomplished. Following Mr. Schultz the request for a non-conforming permit by Nestor Harvieux was considered and laid over until the meeting; Feb. 8, 1960. There being no further business a motion to adjourn was made and carried.
