HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-196 (Naming of Bridgeview Park) RESOLUTION NO. 2014-196 A RESOLUTION NAMING THE FORMER BARGE TERMINAL PROPERTY "BRIDGEVIEW PARK" WHEREAS, in March, 2014, the Parks and Recreation Commission learned of the history of the former Aiple/Barge Terminal property from Washington County Historical Society's Executive Director, Brent Peterson; and WHEREAS,in April, 2014, Council liaison Mike Polehna suggested the Parks and Recreation Commission develop a park naming contest for this 17-acre property south of downtown and the City opened the contest up to the public for name suggestions; and WHEREAS,by the contest ending date of September 17, 2014, the City had collected 245 suggestions for naming the park and on October 27, 2014, the Parks and Recreation Commission recommended to the City Council six suitable names for the park; and WHEREAS, on October 28, 2014, the Council developed a committee for the development of a recommendation of a name for the property; and WHEREAS, on December 1, 2014, the Parks Naming Committee met to discuss the six suitable names for the park; and WHEREAS,on December 2, 2014, the City Council received a committee recommendation for a new name of the former Aiple/Barge Terminal property; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STILLWATER,MINNESOTA: That the former Aiple/Barge Terminal property, a 17-acre parcel south of downtown Stillwater and owned by the City of Stillwater, is hereby named Bridgeview Park.
