HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014-014RESOLUTION NO. 2014-014 A RESOLUTION GRANTING CITY STAFF AUTHORITY TO PROCEED WITH DESIGN OF THE FIRE STATION WHEREAS, on May 15, 2012 the City Council authorized the use of professional services offered by BWBR and Buetow 2 for design work on the new fire station; and WHEREAS, on the same date the City Council approved the expenditure of $312,577.50 to complete the 35% design phase of the fire station and the roadway servicing it; and WHEREAS, since design of the fire station depended in part upon sharing infrastructure and floor space with the National Guard Readiness Center, to which the fire station would be attached, the design phase for completion of the construction drawings was put on hold in October 2012 pending approval by the US Congress and the President of funding for the new National Guard Readiness Center; and WHEREAS, late in December 2013 Congress and the President approved the defense department budget that includes funding for the new Stillwater National Guard Readiness Center; and WHEREAS, the City Council is eager to continue the design work for the fire station just as soon as Congress and the President appropriate the budgeted funds for the Readiness Center. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Stillwater hereby directs City staff to make arrangements with: 1) BWBR, the design team of record, to be prepared to initiate the construction drawing design phase as soon as Congress and the President appropriate funds for the new Stillwater National Guard Readiness Center; and 2) Springsted Incorporated, the City's financial consultants, to begin efforts to explore options for the public sale of City Bonds in an amount necessary to finance improvements that will be made possible should congress appropriate funds for the new Readiness Center construction.
