INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
LCCMR Grant
Turnblad reported there has been discussion about potential acquisition of the Aiple
property along the river, which is for sale. The property includes 4,000 feet of shoreline
from the former depot north to the railroad bridge. Washington County has taken the
lead in seeking revenue sources to purchase the property. There is an opportunity to
apply for a LCCMR Grant to assist in the purchase if the property is restored to a
primarily natural condition. It could be used for recreation related to the river and
Browns Creek Trail, incorporating elements such as a dock for kayaks and canoes,
walking paths, and nature observation. The Commission expressed a consensus that
the majority of the property should be left natural and the grant opportunity should be
pursued.
Summer Programs
Moore presented a list of programs scheduled for Teddy Bear Park and Washington
Square, planned by Jennifer Quinn, Program Coordinator. Programs in Teddy Bear
Park will run between May 14 and August 28. Events in Washington Square will run
weekly between May 28 and August 21. All costs for the events are being paid for by
the Stillwater Park Foundation.
