CITY OF STILLWATER
PARKS & RECREATON COMMISSION
JULY 23, 2012
Present: Commissioners Scott Christensen, Rob McGarry, Sandy Snellman, Don Stiff and
Councilmember Mike Polehna
Absent: Commissioners Linda Amrein, David Brandt, Solveg Peterson
Staff present: Assistant Public Works Superintendent Tim Moore
Commissioner Snellman called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion by Snellman, seconded by Christensen, to approve the June 25, 2012 minutes. All in favor.

No comments were received.
ACTION ITEMS
Millbrook Park Neighborhood Meeting
Mr. Moore said a design for the playground has been chosen that fits in the budget. The surface will
be wood chips. He has started soliciting quotes for parking lot construction, moving a picnic shelter
in from Legends, and some sidewalk work, and is working with the St. Croix Baseball Association
on a baseball field. The City may do the grading. No action is required. According to Mr. Moore the
total cost of the playground equipment, fully complete and installed, is $75,000.
INFORMATIONAL ITEMS
Lowell Park Update
Mr. Moore met with the sandblaster painters for the Gazebo who will start tomorrow.
Brown’s Creek
Mr. Moore reported there was arson at Brown’s Creek, burning part of the playground and the
portable toilet on June 26. Police are investigating. The enclosure was rebuilt last week. Playground
equipment has been ordered. It should be done by the time school starts.
COMMISSION ITEMS/TOPICS
Mr. Polehna introduced Patrick Kopesky, the Parks and Recreation Intern who is going to do a
survey of community athletic groups in School District 834 to determine needs and opportunities.
He also will put together a map of all walking trails. He is doing his practicum in conjunction with
District 834 Community Education and the City of Stillwater. Mr. Kopesky added that he hopes to
complete the tasks in September or October.
