1. The Commission reviewed the budget for the grant application. Discussion
was raised on the amount of funds needed to properly conduct an intensive
architectural /historical survey. Also, questions were raised on exactly
how many properties would be surveyed in the area.
The Commission agreed that the following letter should be sent from the
Minnesota Historical Society's list of qualified persons who conduct these
surveys.
Applicants are being sought for an intensive site survey of
the Downtown Commercial District in Stillwater, Minnesota
from October 1, 1988 to June 1, 1989 for Historic District
Nomination.
Send resume and hourly rate to the City of Stillwater Planning
Department. Deadline postmarked January 22, 1988.
A Special Meeting will be held on January 25, 1988 to review these resume's
and come up with qualified persons within our preliminary budget outline. A
possible interview date will be at next regular meeting.
2. In order to submit the Historic Grant, it must get approval from the City
Council. It will be reviewed by the Council on January 19, 1988.
3. The Commission discussed the new ownership of the Staples Mill property in
downtown. There has been concern over the future use of that property and
its National Register status. A letter will be drafted to welcome the new
owner to Stillwater and state that the Heritage Preservation Commission
will assist in any planned changes.
4. The Commission reviewed the One -Year Program Outline. Further discussion
on this subject at the next regular meeting.
