HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MAY 2 1988
Present: Marlene Workman, Maury Stenerson, Terry Alliband, Shirley
Tibbetts, Maureen Lodge.
Not Present: Dick Haurer
Others: Ann Pung - Terwedo
1. The Commission reviewed the Goals and Objectives for the Heritage
Preservation Commission and changes were made accordingly. These Goals
and Objectives wil be distributed to the City Council with the
proclamation for Preservation Week. The proclamation will be read at the
City Council meeting on May 3, 1988.
2. The Commission discussed the plans for Preservation Week. Articles and
editorials will be featured in the Gazette the week of May 8 - 14. A
volunteer is needed to write a guest editorial. Mr. Stenerson will
contact some local citizens who may be interested in writing this
editorial. Another plan for Preservation Week is to include a logo for
the Norwest Bank. The Commission felt the following logos would be
sufficient:
"PRESERVATION BUILDS COMMUNITY SPIRIT" NATIONAL PRESERVATION
WEEK - MAY 8 - 14.
"RECOGNIZE HISTORIC STILLWATER" NATIONAL PRESERVATION WEEK
- MAY 8 -14.
The Stillwater Gazette wanted to interview Norene Roberts, the researcher for
the Downtown Historic Survey for a feature article for Preservation Week. It
was agreed by the Commission that it would be premature to interview her at
this time because it is still not official that the City has received the
Grant. It was suggested that the Commission members be interviewed for the
feature article. The Commission also reviewed a draft article about
Preservation Week.
3. Marlene Workman presented information she gathered at the annual Heritage
Preservation Commission conference. She also discussed the idea of
sponsoring the State Annual National Register Site Owners Workshop in
1989. The Commission felt that it was a good suggestion.
4. The Commission discussed the Commander Elevator Project. It was suggested
that Mike McGuire be invited to the next regular meeting to present the
project.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Ann Pung - Terwedo
