HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-04-19 CHC MIN • Charter Commission April 18, 1999 Present: Kathy Czar,chairperson Steve Kiester,Robert Kimbrel,Howard Lieberman, Tim Old,Nance Purcell,Mary Ruch Absent: Chuck Donnelly Ms.Czar called the meeting to order at 7:00pm and designated Robert Kimbrel as Recording Secretary. Approval of minutes: Mr.Old, seconded by Mr. Kiester,moved to approve the minutes of February 22, 1999.Motion to approve the minutes passed unanimously. Interview applicant for the Charter Commission: The Charter Commission interviewed Mr. Wayne Anderson for a position on the commission. Mr.Kiester, seconded by Mr.Kimbrel,moved to request a sixty-day extension in the deadline for consideration of candidates.Motion failed to pass on a 3-3 vote. Ms. Purcell, seconded by Ms. Ruch,moved to recommend Mr.Anderson for membership on the commission. Discussion focused on the immediate needs of the commission, and the likelihood of other future openings. Motion passed 3-2 with one abstention. • City Manager Project: Ms. Czar opened the discussion for the May 4 workshop with the City Council. General discussion included the suggestion that preparation work should include contact with members of the council, and the City Administrator. Mr.Kimbrel, as vice-chairperson,was asked to facilitate the workshop discussion on May 4 in the absence Ms. Czar. Old business: With the resignation of Mr. Old from the commission,Mr. Kiester, seconded by Ms. Ruch,moved to extend a big thank you, and generous recognition,to Mr. Old for his great contribution and leadership of the Charter Commission. Motion passed by acclamation. New business: There was general discussion of the May 5 meeting at the Historic Courthouse regarding the new St. Croix river crossing. Ms. Czar suggested that upcoming meetings of the commission would be used to interview additional candidates. Applicants should send letters of interest to Judge Meyer,and contact Ms Czar to schedule time on the agenda. Mr. Old, seconded by Ms.Ruch, moved to adjourn at 9:00pm.
