July 21, 1989 Dear Mayor Abrahamson & Council Members- I find it hard to believe that any of you would even consider the idea of closing the Levy Road. My family and many of my friends and their families have been using that road for years. We've used it for alot of different reasons.S\.lch as getting from one end of the town to the other when traffic is tied up downtown, taking friends down to look at the river, letting older people off so they are able to sit down close to the river and enjoy the view (which they would not be able to do if they were forced to walk any distance). . The Levy road allows many families to take a break during the day or evening and go for a ride down by the river. It you close the road down who'S gOing to patrol down theLe. Now a police officer is able to drive by and check things out every so otten. Are you going to pull one of three officers that we have on duty from 7 p.m.to 3 a.m. just to be down there? Many of my friends and myself feel that by leaving that road open to local traffic you will have aiot less problems. What with the parking problems, the new meter cost to park, and the added hours to pay meters that you people want to set, plus the traffic problems, and the docks, restaraunts etc. being put down on the river tront, we are running out of place to even view the river from. We are qUiCkly running out of reasons to even go downtown anymore. Mary Jo Stevensen , ~ cfoQJ~ 1123 ~.Flrst Street Stillwater, Mn 55082 .439...3286 \ . . . . -1/ ~..
