HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-12-16 HPC MINSPECIAL MEETING THE HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MONDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1991 The Heritage Preservation Commission met Monday, December 16, 1991, at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of City Hall, 216 North Fourth Street, Stillwater, Minnesota. Present: Marlene Workman, Shawn Draper, Howard Liebermain and Chairman Jeff Johnson Not Present: Tim Stephan, Katherine Francis and Robert Kimbrel 1. Case No. DR/91 -22 (this item was continued from regular HPC meeting of 12- 2-91). Mark Ogren representing Fina Corporation presented the revised plans including a 7' x 7' brand name sign and 5' x 5' price sign on the pylon and Fina Mart Signs over the west and east entrances to the building. Mr. Ogren said they had decided to illuminate the lighted Fina band around the canopy and building and replace it with a metal non - internally illuminated band. The Fina Mart signs would be externally illuminated from the canopy. Audio tape showing the existing Fina Station and a Superamerica Station in St. Paul was shown. The St. Paul station had architectural lighting, railing, rouget iron railing around the perimeter of the site and brick building. The commission discussed the sign program including the size and height of the pylon sign and wall signs and building and canopy treatment the proposed pylon sign would be larger then the existing sign commission member thought the new sign should be no larger. After further discussion, motion by Jeff Johnson, seconded by Shawn Draper to approve the sign program with the following conditions: 1. The pylon sign shall be 50 square feet and 20 feet tall maximum. 2. The Fina Market wall signs shall be externally illuminated. 3. The florescent tube light shall be removed or concealed. Approved 4 - 0 2. Case No. DR/91 -22 (this item was continued from 12- 2 -91). Commission meeting for further review. The applicant Lon Feia presented a design for the portable valet parking sign. The letter type and sign copy was reviewed by the Commission. The sign standard would be made of heavy metal with block letters on white background. The height of the valet sign was 48 inches. The Commission reviewed the request. Motion by Marlene Workman, seconded by Shawn Draper. Valet sign approved. Approved 4 - 0 The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Steve Russell
