MINUTES
The Heritage Preservation Commission /Design Review Committee met Monday,
September 8, 1993 at 7:00 P.M. in the Conference Room of the Stillwater Fire
Department.
Present: Chairperson Jeff Johnson, Brent Peterson, Howard Lieberman, Pat
Qualey.
Not Present: Katherine Francis, Bob Kimbrel, Tim Stefan and Jay Michels.
1. Approval of Minutes - August 2, 1993.
Pat Qualey made a motion to accept the minutes of August 2, 1993. Seconded
by Howard Lieberman. ALL IN FAVOR.
2. Case No. DR/93 -26 - Design Review for an awning with signage at the Main
Cafe, 118 South Main Street in the Historic Commercial District. Sammy
Youself, Applicant.
Mr. Youself presented the proposal. He stated the awning will have signage
on the front and sides. The awning will be burgundy with gold lettering.
Jeff Johnson stated the signage proposed for the awning exceeds what is
allowed in the ordinance. It is considered three signs.
Discussion followed on the signage. Ann stated the corners of the awnings
face Chestnut and Myrtle Streets. Jeff Johnson stated the signage on the
edges of the awning could be considered one sign which is two - faced.
Jeff Johnson made a motion to approve the awning color and the signage at
ends of the awning. Seconded by Brent Peterson. ALL IN FAVOR. APPROVED.
3. Lowell Park Plan Distribution
Ann distributed the Lo Park Plan and updated the Committee on the
status of the Levee Wall Project.
4. Context Study
The Commission discussed the Context Study /Introduction. Brent Peterson
feels the goals and objectives are broad. Ann Terwedo stated this study is
intended to give direction to the Heritage Preservation Commission for the
future of preservation in the city. Next month the whole study will be
discussed.
5. Prison Site Reuse Study
Ann presented the Prison Site Reuse Study. Jeff Johnson and Brent Peterson
will be the Heritage Preservation Commission representatives on the
advisory team.

6. Case No. DR/93 -25 - Design Review for a six square foot projecting sign at
118 South Main Street in the Historic Commercial District. Mike Lynskey,
Applicant.
Ann presented the proposal. She stated the sign will be similar to the Main
street Square sign. It will be placed next to Mr. Lynskey's door.
Brent Peterson made a motion to approve the signage as proposed. SEconded
by Pat Qualey. ALL IN FAVOR. APPROVED.
Jeff Johnson made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by Brent Peterson. ALL IN
FAVOR.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
