The Heritage Preservation Commission met Monday, April 4, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in the City
Council Chambers (and Fire Department) of City Hall, 216 N. Fourth St.
Present: Jeff Johnson, Bob Kimbrel, Jay Michels, Roger Tompten,
Howard Lieberman, and K.B. Francis
Not Present: Pat Qualey, Brent Peterson
Others: Debra Walsh, Jack Wenneberg, Mark Balay
Approval of minutes of March 9, 1994: Jeff Johnson made a motion to approve. Seconded by
Jay Michels. All in favor.
1) Case No. DR/94 -1. Design Review for a 20 sq. ft. wall sign at 224 E. Chestnut Street in the
Historic Commercial District, Debra Walsh, applicant.
The Commission discussed the wall sign and indicated that the wall ign should remain within
the sign band area and the sign size should be 15.7 sq. ft. �P� raV
2) Case No. DR/94 -1 Design Review for facade modifications, standardized signage and paint
facade at 209 -211 S. Main Street in the Historic Commercial District. Darlene Friedrichs.
Mark Balay presented the proposal. He stated that this plan will emphasize the vertical elements
of the building.
Howard Lieberman made a motion to approve. Seconded by Jeff Johnson. All in favor.
3) The Commission discussed the preservation awards to be distributed in May.
The following individuals will be receiving awards:
-St. Croix Designs, Owner
- Architectural Antiques, Ned Souder
-The Jassoy Block, Richard Kilty
-The Wrap and Ship Building
Ann will write an article for Preservation Week.
4) Preservation Commission Workshop Attendees, Red Wing, April 16.

5) Ann reported that the H.P.C. reviewed the grant for the north hill survey.
6) The Commission discussed public relation ideas for restoration projects including a scrapbook
of good projects.
Bob Kimbrel made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by Howard Lieberman. All in favor. Meeting
adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
