HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-10-03 HPC MINHERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES The Stillwater Heritage Preservation Commission met Monday, October 3, 1994, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of City Hall, 216 North Fourth St., Stillwater. Present: Jeff Johnson, Chairperson, Roger Tomten, Brent Peterson, Bob Kimbrel, Jay Michels. Not Present: K.B. Francis Jeff Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. Approval of minutes, September 7, 1994. Brent Peterson made a motion to approve. Seconded by Roger Tomten. All in favor. 1. Case No. DR/94 -11. Design review and variance for the Associated Eye Physicians at 232 North Main in the CBD, Central Business District. Greg Skoog, applicant. Mr. Skoog presented the proposal. He stated that the lettering will be subdued. The base of the sign will be douglas fir. The colors will be a flat/earthtone background with gold. �S �ropoSa -� 'do Discussion followed regarding the size of the sign. The sign vie 3 ft. 6 in. x IER. Jeff Johnson questioned the lighting. Mr. Skoog stated that it will be lit from another source. The Commission recommended that the sign be more of a prairie style. Jeff Johnson made a motion to approve with the following additional conditions: 3. The size of the sign shall be 3' x 6'6 ". 4. The background shall be dark. Seconded by Roger Tomten. All in favor. Approved. 2. Case No. DR/94 -10. A sign permit for the placement of signage on three faces of a multiple use building and the construction of an exterior deck. The property is located at 423 South Main Street in the Downtown Plan Area. Bob Tanner, applicant. Greg Skoog, representing Mr. Tanner, reviewed portions of the signage for the Brick Alley Building at 423 S. Main. They reviewed the south face sign and the west (Main Street) sign. The discussion ended. 3. The Commission received a letter of resignation from Pat Qualey. Stillwater Heritage Preservation Commission Minutes October 3, 1994 4. The Commission reviewed the North Hill Historic Survey. 5. Case No. DR/10. (Continuation) Bob Tanner reviewed the proposal. The awning will be the same as the existing awnings on the Brick Alley Building. The Plan calls for stucco material to be used on the outside patio area. The only lighting on the structure will be above the awning. Bob Kimbrel wondered if more specific information should be submitted. Jeff Johnson felt comfortable with it. He also explained that the other signage was appropriate. Jay Michels made a motion to app" vex Al following additional conditions: 1. One light fixture er a Bric sign on the south side is allowed. 2. The colors and brick materials on the patio shall match the existing building. Seconded by Brent Peterson. All in favor. 6. Case No. DR/94 -12. Design review for a free - standing sign approximately six feet in height at 333 N. Main. Mark Desch, Applicant. Mark Desch presented the proposal. Two options were considered. Bob questioned if the Committee should approve both signs. Tim Old reviewed the color options. Bob Kimbrel made a motion to approve both signs. Jeff Johnson seconded the motion. All in favor. 7. Case No. DR/94 -9. Design Review for a sign permit for a 48 sq. ft. wall sign at 317 South Main Street in the Historic District. Kathy Dahl, Applicant. Jeff made a motion to approve the two conditions of approval: 1. Staff to review the colors. 2. Limit the sign to 25 sq. ft. if it is going to be replaced. All in favor. 8. Ann updated the Commission on the Lowell Park Plan. 9. Roger reviewed a letter in response to a decision made by the City Council in regards to the Corner Store Shopps.
