Absent: None Also Present: Acting City Clerk, Schnell Press: Stillwater Gazette - Bob Liberty Citzens: Wilbur Munson SEWER REVENUE RATE INCREASE TAXI RATE INCREASES December 7, 1977 4:00 P. M. Present: Councilwoman Bodlovick, Councilmen Mahoney, Peterson and Powell and Mayor Junker Discussion was held regarding the letter received from the Metro Waste Control Commission dated November 21, 1977 indicating that our monthly installments for the year 1978 would be $17,699.45 which is almost double what we paid in 1977. On motion of Councilman Peterson, seconded by Councilwoman Bodlovick, the Acting City Clerk was instructed to ask the City Attorney to prepare the necessary ordinance for its first reading "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 368 ESTABLISHING SEWER SERVICE RATES" which would set the minimm of $12.00 per unit per quarter for each additional 1,000 gallons, and that the necessary publicity be given to the paper so that the public will be aware of what is going to happen the first of the year. Also that the City Attorney and the Consulting Engineer be instructed to pursue the matter of a reduction or abatement of a portion of these charges, whichever they see fit. (all in favor) The Council at their meeting on December 6th had requested that Mr. Virginia Ritzer appear at a special meeting of the City Council on December 7, 1977 at 4:30 P. M. to negotiate the proposed rate increases. She did not appear by 5:00 P. M., so the Council took the following action: On motion of Councilman Powell, seconded by Councilwoman Bodlovick, the Council refused to grant the increases as proposed on November 22, 1977. AYES -- Councilwoman Bodlovick, Councilmen Peterson and Powell and Mayor Junker NAYS -- Councilman Mahoney (motion carried) Councilman Powell moved that the Acting City Clerk be instructed to advise the Stillwater Taxi Co. that they consider the possibility of putting meters in the cabs so that fair and equitable fares can be charged and the City would negotiate the rate - (due to the lack of a second and after further discussion Councilman Powell withdrew his motion). On motion of Councilman Mahoney, seconded by Councilman Peterson, that the Acting City Clerk send the following proposal to the Stillwater Taxi Co: That they consider the possibility of installing meters to their cab- so that the rates would be 'air and equitable, or they are agreeable to accepting the rate schedule submitted prior to November 22, 1977 which was for a minimu rate of $1.65 for a local fare with the addition of a rate of $1.25 for runs of less than six blocks of the downtown area.
