HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-01-22 DTPC MINStillwater Downtown Parking Commission Meeting Minutes: 1/22/09 Members Present: Gannaway, Rice, Korte, LaCasse, Hasket (Absent: Junker, Newcombe, Gag) Marathon: Dave Eckberg from St. Croix Events present to discuss Marathon and issues related to parking. After lengthy discussion, tentative plans are to have runners park at Andersen Windows Corporate, Wash. Co. Gov. Center, and Stillwater High School parking Tots. Volunteers will be parked at Riverview Lot by Vets Memorial. Both will be shuttled to starting /work location. Visitors and spectators will be encouraged to park at north downtown Tots. Lumberjack Days: Parking issues discussed with upcoming UD's in lieu of Parking Ramp discussion. Ramp construction will eliminate approx. 120 spots, but no alternatives exist this year. Dairy Queen: Owner of new Dairy Queen requested DQ Only /15 min. parking signs in Brick Alley and /or Chestnut. Commission advised no to business specific signage, but asked Bill Turnblad to go back to owner giving limited 30 min. parking signs, preferably on Chestnut. Owner is proposing offering parking spots during ramp construction at old Assoc. Eye Care lot. Pictometry: Commission approved paying share of technology for Parking use (price estimated at $40). Downtown Cameras: Proposal discussed, only bid an estimated $110K for 16 downtown cameras, network, and server. Firm up RFP prices, more specific number needed for downtown ramp. Present to City Council in March. Parking Ramp: Turnblad discussed construction timetable. Construction will start in earnest in May, completion anticipated in November. Discussion over operations, bringing in local /low cost consultant to fine tune operations plan, downtown parking plan /costs and fees. To much free parking will drive traffic away from Ramp use. General Discussion: General concurrence that with fiscal issues arising in City, for possible revenue generation to charge events /entities that are 'for profit' that utilize paid parking Tots to be charged for use. *Next Meeting Scheduled for February 26th
