Dear Mayor and Council members, After watching the council meeting last week. I was very upset at the idea of closing the Levy road. I wonder how much thought went into that proposal. Mr. Farrell stated he couldn't see keeping it open for the few locals that use it. Does Mr. Farrell wonder why local businesses are moving out of town and why local residence don't go down town? You had a local downtown businessman ask to wait to close that road until you start making all these changes and improvements in the next year or so. I can't believe this has to be the first change. . Have any of you checked in the Metro area where roads were closed in parks to see what has happened. Those parks now are homes for the homeless - selling spots for drug dealers and hangouts for undesirables. If you thought it was unsafe with a few cars driving through for families - wait until you see how many families use that park then. You would need full time police on foot to keep the unwanted out of there. Are you willing to spend that kind of money? You can only spread the department so thin. Working with Social Services I know we ha~e this kind or people in Stillwater. I truly hope you think this through before you vote on it again. As the Mayor and Councilwoman Bodlovick stated - once again you are putting the cart before the horse. Eliminate some of the traffic problems with a bridge so people have a fighting chance on main street before you start putting more cars out there. If so few cars use the levy road - why close it? - Sit down there some evening. - granted - you have your cruising kids but they are on other streets in town too. You also have grandpas taking grandmas for a ride to see the river. Do you expect them to walk a block or get tangled up down by the boat launch. You also have the squad cars which keep things relatively under control. . A Concerned Ci~ ~~~y ~? 5876 Oldfield Ave. NO~ ~ Stillwater, Mn. 55082 439-0354
