To purchase portable water pump for department to be used for flooding &: sp~-
coating Lily lake rinks. Heretofore have been using portabl~ pump belonging to fire
dept. which bas 'many hours on it &: is eDlergency etluipment kept in ready truck. Fire
Ohief believes that since we use all e~uipment of f~e ~ept. for skating rinks. it
would be good investment to have our own pump, which could also be used by fire dept.
in event of failure of their pump. Approx cost $450.00.
The following are long range reccomendatioBs of Committe secretary Wm. O'!rien ass-
isted by supervisor for beach improvements &: restrictions to avoid pOllution.
1. Recommend that children transported to Lily Lake beach for Bed Cross swimming
lessons be discontinued. This would account for about 260 persons from Marine,
Withrow. Lakeland-Afton area &, Lake E1mo. Total would be about 7BO persons per week
or 5,460 for summer program. These children could be taught in their own areas
with some help from the county.
. 3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
2. Survey exact boundaries at Lily Lake & put up fence with gate with attendant at
gate during open hours, whose sala.ry would be paid f:rom. revenue from charging non-
residents admission. Example from White !ear !each --fax payers from Stillwater
receive round plastic disk with inscription BEACBES~f~ 1965 - one or more for
each family. Showing this disk to gate attendailt admits persons free. Anyone from
outside Stillwater, but from Washington county, ~s $5.00 for said disk. All
others pay 5~ per car plus 10; per head plus 50; per picnic table.
Enlarge parking area by draining &: filling pond &: leveling area from pond to
Greeley St. rd.
:Blacktop road coming into beach at both beaches... very necessary.
Widen Lily Lake swimming area by about 75 ft. (work on this is started.)
At Legion beach put in a slide & cover or get rid of rocks in wading area, in
order to make beach more attractive & take some of the load off Lily Lake.
Urge Wash. County board to acq, uire land for public beaches at :Big Carnelian' &:
Big Marine lakes to help take load off generally overcrowded beaches of the area.
S~ING - 1964-65
Can build 60' x 120' rink on parking lot at Lily lake plus lptmile track on lake.
Warming house will be centaal portion of bath house with access from either rink.
:Both rinks lighted. Other rinks at S. :Broadway, Aspen St. & St. Mary's school. Will
flood rink again at Echo Lane in Stone Pond if Mrs. H. Pauley agrees to same conditions
all last year. V.F. W. has stated they would like to use" mile track at Lily earlier
this year to teach kids speed-skating so they can enter racing events in area.
