Report - Thomsen e CITY HALL: 216 NORTH FOURTH STILLWATER, MINNESOTA 55082 PHONE: 612-439-6121 e MINUTES STILLWATER PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING November 10, 1992 MEMBERS PRESENT: Wayne Wohlers, Doug Hartman, David Ju ker, Alan Liehr, Rob McGarry, Ken Meister, and Mike Polehna MEMBERS ABSENT: Jim Gannon, Steve Joyce, Tom Lillesve and Roberta Opheim ALSO PRESENT: Tim Thomsen and Bob Bielenberg Chairman Wohlers called the meeting to order at 7:10 the APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by David Junker, seconded by Ken Meister minutes of October 27, 1992 as submitted. All in e OLD BUSINESS Wayne Wohlers noted a letter from Mary and David Ruch ommending the Parks Department for removal of dead pine trees ad acent to their property. He also read a letter from Arthur and Patricia Gill their interest in serving on the Parks and Recreation ndicating ard. MCKUSICK LAKE WALKWAY Wayne reported that Duane Elliott has contacted him concern that the walking path and bike trail for McKu will not go through. The plan calls for filling one an acre of wetlands. Three acres of new wetland will be the other end of the lake to compensate. The City Cou hold a public information meeting on this issue next Mr. Elliott is asking for the Board's support. his ick Lake one-half added at cil will Tuesday. The Board discussed the issue and determined that fi wetland would not be a problem because of the new wetl created. They also determined that the path would mak more available to more people, and would also lessen t of walking along HcKusick Lake Road. Motion by Al Liehr, seconded by Doug Hartman that Recreation Board continues to support the creation path around McKusick Lake. Parks and walking e ARENA REPORT Bob Bielenberg reported that he will be sending out no Spring and Summer Hockey bids. Spring Hockey wil standard specs. All in favor. the bid the Bids will be opened at next month's meeting on December 8. e PARKS AND RECREATION REPORT Tim Thomsen reported that the Elks will begin using courts on November 15 to sell Christmas trees. tennis The ballfields are closed up and skating rinks are not Tim will be advertising this month for rink attendants. He has hired three at this time. Rinks should be open by Christmas vacation, depending upon the weather. NEW BUSINESS Mike polehna reported that the committee working on a arena is considering some fund raising for the Lily Lak there are some needs. Tim stated that at this time sure, because the budget will not be finalized until De new ice arena if e is not ember 5. Tim reported on the clarification received from City Attorney Magnuson regarding the Park Dedication Fund: The mon y can be used for acquisition and establishment of parks and p aygrounds and capital improvements, but not for maintenance. Tim estimated that $10,000 would be needed for a new pi nic area for Lily Lake and for new playground equipment for oth r parks, There is currently $44,000 in the Park Dedication Fund. The Board will pursue this after the budget is finalized. e NEXT MEETING The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. 2
