Adjournment CITY HAll: 216 NORTH FOURTH STillWATER, MINNESOTA 55082 PHONE: 612-439-6 21 e e e MINUTES STILLWATER PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MEETING JANUARY 22t 1991 MEMBERS PRESENT: Wayne Wohlers, Dick Blekum, Douglas H rtman, David Junker, Steve Joyce, Rob McGarr , Roberta Opheim and Mike Polehna MEMBERS ABSENT: Jim Gannon, Alan Liehr, Tom Lammers ALSO PRESENT: Tim Thomsen and Bob Bielenberg Chairman Wohlers called the meeting to order at 7:00 p. . APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Mike Polehna to approve the minutes of the m December 11, 1991 as submitted. Seconded by Dick Blek favor. OLD BUSINESS The Commission had previously discussed installing a ne the Ramsey Street skating rink. Steve Joyce asked if still plans to do so. Tom Thomsen responded that ther poles there now but the poles are too short. Dick Ble that because of a lack of funds, this item was cut budget. It was an estimated $3,000 expense. Mr. Wohlers that this item be discussed again in April. Mike Polehna suggested that one of the lights on the h at Northland Park be turned around to light the recreat Mr. Blekum agreed that the hockey rink is overlit. Tim into this possibility and see what the cost would be. Dick Blekum suggested that the Parks and Recreation Boa to meeting at the Parks Building rather than City Hall of the number of City Council meetings held on Tuesday the Board may be unable to use the Council Chambers have to meet in the downstairs Public Works Department also suggested that Board meetings could be held at Ci any public hearings were scheduled. Dick Blekum made a motion to resume meeting at Department Building unless a public hearing is schedul Polehna seconded. All in favor. Mr. Thomsen stated that he has been with the City for seven years; he has been in parks maintenance for 17 years. At this time, he has not set goals for the departme t. Parks Department staff will remain the same. Mr. Thomsen d stributed copies of the Parks Department 1990 Annual Report. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN AND VICE-CHAIRMAN FOR 1991 Dick Blekum nominated Wayne Wohlers to continue as Cha rman for 1991. Mike Polehna nominated David Junker to continue as Vice- Chairman for 1991. All in favor. LILY LAKE ARENA REPQRT Bob Bielenberg reported that there are no problems. The high school games are going fine. It was noted that one of the rink attendants was overheard using inappropriate language w th young children at the arena. The Board directed Mr. Biel nberg to inform the attendant that this will not be tolerated. There was also discussion of a problem with the public restrooms not being clean. The Board directed Tim and Bob to look into this problem and determine what it will take to make the restrooms cleaner. It may be a matter of simply cleaning the rest ooms more often, or it may be that new fixtures, etc. are neede. It was also suggested that trough urinals be installed if poss ble. There was discussion of pOSSible City Council action to comp time for all salaried employees. The Board did no action but asked Roberta Opheim to convey to the Cit their feelings that the Ice Arena manager's position i and to find out what his options would be should comp el i mi nated.
