STILLWATER PARK AND RECREATION
BOARD MEETING
January 10, 1989
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Wayne Wohlers, Jim Gannon, Steve Joy e, Tom
Lammers, Alan Liehr, Rob McGarry, Ro erta
Opheim, and Susan Supina, and Tom Th reson
MEMBERS ABSENT:
John Benson and Duane Nelson
ALSO PRESENT:
Bob Bielenberg and Dick Blekum
Chairman Wayne Wohlers called the meeting to order at 7: 5 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Alan Liehr made a motion to approve the minutes of. the December
13, 1988 meeting. Tom Thoreson seconded the motion. All in favor.
OLD BUSINESS
Chairman Wohlers reported on a Board member's lack of a

Chairman Wohlers requested nominations for Chairman r 1989.
Susan Supina nominated Wayne Wohlers. Roberta Opheim m ved that
nominations be closed; Tom Lammers seconded. All in fav r.
Chairman Wohlers requested nominations for Vice Chai man for
1989. Alan Liehr nominated Tom Thoreson. Susan Supina moved to
close the nominations. Steve Joyce seconded. All in fa or.
ARENA AND OUTDOOR RINK REPORT
Bob Bielenberg reported that a new furnace has been inst lIed in
the South end locker rooms. The locker room doors are urrently
under repair. He also reported that all ice time is boo ed.
Chairman Wohlers stated. that the Zamboni room is clean and in
good shape.
Dick Blekum reported that the outdoor rinks are in good hape and
are being well used.
The Board discussed the possibility of installing light
Ramsey-Grove ice rink. Mr. Blkum stated that there is

Pioneer Park which would be available for use at Ramsey Grove.
Roberta Opheim stated she would bring up the request at the City
Council meeting.
(Jim Gannon arrived at 7:35 p.m.)
Bob Bielenberg reported that only one high scho I hockey
conference game is held at the arena. He requested the Board's
assistance in holding more high school games at t e arena.
Chairman Wohlers asked for input from the Board, and the majority
stated they would like to see more games held at the ar na.
Alan Liehr made a motion that the Board draft a letter to the
school board and athletic director inquiring why more ames are
not held at Lily Lake Arena. Rob McGarry seconded. All in
favor. Roberta Opheim will draft the letter.
LILY LAKE BALLFIELD CONSTRUCTION
Tom Thoreson reported that work on the ballfield has been
progressing. The landscaping will be finished in the s ring, and
there is some dirt to be removed. The irrigation system will have
to be extended, and new topsoil in place before the field can be
used. He estimated that the field will be ready for p ay at the
end of the summer. The new backstop and fencing ave been
budgeted.
Lights have not been included in this year's budget. Dick Blekum
stated that this item should be requested in next year's budget,
and estimated the cost to be $18,000 to $25,000.
Roberta Opheim made a motion that the Board recommend
on the new softball field at Lily Lake as a desired
direct staff to examine the item and work towards that

Tom ~horeson reported that he talked to Dick Cool, Sr., today and
Mr. Cool stated that he is not involved in the balloon races this
year and the races will not be held at Lily Lake.
NEW BUSINESS
Bob Bielenberg reported he has received a request to rent
time for one week to hold a specialized goal tending sc ool.
Board agreed the arena should be rented for $75 an hour.

Roberta Opheim made a motion to authorize Bob Bielenber to rent
ice time as requested, subject to checking with City Attorney
Magnuson, and as long as the arena does not lose mo ey. Jim

The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board will be
Tuesday, February 14, 1989 at 7:00 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
Jim Gannon made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 p.m. Al
Liehr seconded. All in favor.
