HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-235 ~ RESOLUTION NO. 91-235 HONORING THE STILLWATER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ON THEIR CENTENNIAL YEAR WHEREAS, The Stillwater Area Chamber of Commerce was incorporated at 10 and a half o'clock on December 2, 1891 with some of the participants being Isaac Staples, John O'Brien and David Tozer; and r WHEREAS, the first Chamber came about during the heyday of the lumber industry an an effort to keep St. Croix Manufacturing from moving; and WHEREAS, through the years the name of the organization has changed to Commerce Club, Board of Trade, Boosters, the Stillwater Club, the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, a few businesses are now in their fourth or fifth generation of ownership, such as George W. Olsen Construction, Simonet businesses, Hooley's, Shorty's, First National Bank and the Gazette; and WHEREAS, the current Chamber has more than 400 members and many of today's concerns are similar to those of 100 years ago, those being the bridge, tourists and shopping at home; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Stillwater City Council congratulates the Stillwater Area Chamber of Commerce on their 100th anniversary year, salutes them for their many achievements in helping to make Stillwater a viable business community, a popular destination for tourists, a comfortable place to live, and offers their best wishes for future growth and success.
