That the Chief of the Fire Department has the skills, technical knowledge and overall abilities to manage the affairs and operation of the Fire Department without the direct supervision of a Public Safety Director. 2. That the Fire Department personnel are concerned that a Police professional rather than a Fire suppression and inspection professional would be managing the Fire Department and believe it is more appropriate and would eliminate tension to have a Fire Chief manage the Fire Department rather than a Police Chief. 3. That presently, the Firemen are represented by one bargaining unit and the Policemen by another so that there are two separte unions to deal with. 4. There is a need for separate identities that were historically created by the City Charter. BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that effective immediately, the position of Public Safety Director as created and modified by resolution of the City be in the same is hereby abolished. Enacted by vote of the City Council this 1st day of October, 1991.
