CITY OF STILLWATER
WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE CITY OF STILLWATER ENTER INTO
A PARTNERSHIP WITH STILLWATER TOWNSHIP, THE MINNESOTA
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND THE WASHINGTON COUNTY
SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT TO UNDERTAKE NATURAL
RESOURCES PLANNING, ACQUISITION AND RESTORATION AS PART OF THE
METRO GREENWAYS INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, Brown's Creek is recognized as a regionally significant natural resource, noted for
its high quality natural communities, and significance as fish and wildlife habitat; and,
WHEREAS, the Brown's Creek Watershed District has completed a Hydraulic and Hydrologic
Study of the Brown's Creek Watershed and determined that the middle reaches of Brown's Creek
are sensitive to the impacts of existing and future land use in the Watershed; and,
WHEREAS, the Middle Reach of Brown's Creek is hereby defined as that segment of Brown's
Creek and Tributaries located between Manning Avenue and the Zephyr Rail Road Crossing,
located within the Township of Stillwater and within the City of Stillwater; and,
WHEREAS, the City Stillwater proposes to create the Brown's Creek Nature Preserve, a 84.5
area located on the west side of Stillwater within Phase 11 of the City Expansion Area and
bordering tributaries to Brown's Creek; and,
WHEREAS, the Brown's Creek Watershed District proposes to develop a Middle Brown's
Creek Corridor Management Plan which will include portions of Brown's Creek and Tributaries
within the Brown's Creek Nature Preserve; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Brown's Creek Watershed District, City of
Stillwater, Stillwater Township, Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District and
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources that it is necessary for all local units of government
and agencies to cooperate and support efforts to manage and protect Brown's Creek within the
Middle Brown's Creek Corridor and proposed Brown's Creek Nature Preserve.
Adopted by the City Council this 2nd day of March, 1999.
