HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-129~~ RESOLUTION NO. 99-12 9 AMENDING EMERGENCY RESPONSE POLICY FOR THE STILLWATER FIRE DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, an emergency response policy for the Stillwater Fire Department was adopted by Council on Apri16, 1999; and WHEREAS, it was deemed in the best interests of the City to amend this policy; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Stillwater, Minnesota, that the amended emergency response policy for the Stillwater Fire Department, attached as Exhibit A, is hereby adopted. ATTEST: r ~-~ J K' a r Morl' Weldon, City Clerk Stillwater Fire Department Policy Subject: Emergency Response Requirements Scope: Emergency call attendance for part-time personnel Purpose: To amend and define the minimum requirements for response to emergency incidents for all part-time personnel. Policy: Each part-time employee must respond to a minimum of twenty percent (20%) of all assigned emergency incidents during each quarter of the calendar year (i.e., January through March, April through June, July through September, and October through December). Part-time engineers and officers are assigned to all emergency incidents except medical calls within the Stillwater City limits, and carbon monoxide calls without medical symptoms within the Stillwater City limits. Part-time firefighters that have not yet reached the rank of engineer are assigned to all emergency incidents except all medical calls, all carbon monoxide calls without medical symptoms, and station standby calls. A station standby call is issued by dispatch on a request from the on-duty crew, when the on-duty crew will be out of service for an extended time, such as when performing C.P.R. Persons not meeting the minimum requirement during a quarter shall receive a written notification of such violation of this policy. Persons not meeting the requirement during two quarters of any consecutive four-quarter period shall receive a written reprimand. Persons not meeting the requirement during three quarters of any consecutive eight- quarterperiod shall receive a thirty (30) day suspension from duty. Persons not meeting the requirement during four quarters of any consecutive eight- quarter period shall be subject to dismissal by the City Council. The Fire Chief, with the concurrence of the City Coordinator, shall have authority to exercise judgement in the application of this policy for unusual or extenuating circumstances such as injury, illness, authorized leave of absence, etc. Date adopted by City Council Resolution number
