RESOLUTION NO. 94-76 WHEREAS, the City Council has studied the questions of whether a City-wide sales tax would be beneficial to the City, and, WHEREAS, they have received input from every aspect of the community that will be affected by the one percent tax, and, WHEREAS, they have consulted with legislators, representing the district in the legislature of the State of Minnesota, and, WHEREAS, it would be proper to ask the legislature to enact a special law allowing the City to adopt a one percent sales tax if such a tax would enjoy broad-based and community-wide support. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS. 1. That the City propose a proposition for the imposition of a one percent sales tax and that the question of whether or not to approach the legislature should be placed on the ballot at the next City-wide election asking the question as follows. "Shall the City seek legislative authority to impose by ordinance a one percent City-wide sales tax? Yes or No" Adopted by the City Council of the City of Stillwater this 15th day of March, 1994.
