AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF STILLWATER PROVIDING FOR THE CUSTODY AND DISPOSAL
OF PROPERTY UNCLAIMED BY ITS OWNER.
The City Council of the City of Stillwater, Washington County, Minnesota, does
ordain:
I.
All property lawfully coming into the possession of the City of Stillwater
and unclaimed by its owner shall be disposed of as follows:
1. The department of the City into whose po ion property:'comes shall
arrange forstorage. of the same. If municipal facilitiesforstorageare
unavailable or inadequate, arrangements for storage at privately owned facil-
ities may be arranged.
7. Theowner of the property may claim the same by exhibiting satisfactory
proof of ownership and paying the City storage or maintenance costs incurred
by. the City or such charges for storage on city. property as may be established
by Council action. A release for the property shall be obtained upon release
to the owner.
3. In the event that the property remains unclaimed in the possession of the
City for a period of three months, the property/ shall thereafter be sold.
to the highest bidder: at a public auction conducted by the Chief of Policeof
the City. Such auction shall be held after two weeks published notice setting
forth the time and place thereof and the property to be sold.
4. Net proceeds from the sale of such property after deductionof private
storage costs incurred, if any, shall be placed in the Police Equipment. Fund
of the City,;' subject to the right of the former ownerto payment of the sale
price to him from the fund upon application and satisfactory proof of owner-
ship within six months of the sale.
II.
This.. ordinance shall be effective from and after its passage and publication
according to law.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Stillwater, Washington County, Minn-
esota, this llth day of February, 1969.
