MAY 23, 1950
A regular meeting of the Stillwater Recreation Board was held
May 23, 1950 at 7 : 30 P.M. at the City Hall .
Present at the meeting were Messrs Waldref, Bourdaghs, Pozzini,
Grove and Cayou.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mr. Bourdaghs reported that there was no activity in the skating
program.
Messrs Bayou and Pozzini reported that backstops were needed at
Staples Field and Washington Park. On motion by Mr. Bourdaghs,
seconded by Mr. Grove and duly carried; Messrs Cayou and Pozzini
were authorized to arrange for the erection of a portable backstops
using the assistance offered by Earl Ayers and obtaining voluntary
help from such organizations as the Church League and the
Washington Parent-Teachers' Association.
It was reported that the grounds were in good condition.
At this point, the possibility of grading North William Street
between Hickory and Maple Streets for sliding was suggested by
Mr. Cayou for consideration at the appropriate time.
In regard to the swimming beaches, it was reported by Mr. Bourdaghs
that Marilyn McGarry and Jane Henley had accepted the positions of
life guards for the summer, one for each beach, with Miss McGarry
beginning her work on June 12 . John Haefner was proposed by Mr.
Grove to act as relief man and maintenance helpers . This suggestion
was accepted inasmuch as Mr. Haefner had expressed an interest in
the position.
It was reported that Andy Sjoholm has given occasional help in the
work at St. Croix Beach.
Fireman Hoyt Alquist entered the meeting during the discussion of
a caretaker for Lily Lake Beach. Mr. Grove was authorized to
contact Charlie Johnson and others for this position.
It was agreed that the Board meet at the Lily Lake Beach at
6 : 30 P.M. on Thursday, May 25 with another meeting Monday evening,
May 29 if necessary.
