HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958 PRC MINApril 9,1958 A regular meeting of the Stillwater Recreation Board was held at the City Hall April 9,I958. Present were:C.D.Bourdaghs,Lawrence Junker,William L. OIBrien,also Dean Charlsen. A motion was passed to buy 35 barrels on a bid of $I.OO from the Minnesota State Prison for the use of a new diving dock. Dean 6harlsen will see that the barrels are obtained and will have Aby Erlitz weld them together for the diving dock. A notice is to be put in the paper to call for the applications of life guards and caretakers at the two bathing beaches. A motion was passed to get barrels to mark the beach limits at Lily Lake. A special meeting is to be held on April 30,to consider the applications for life guards and caretakers. On motion the meeting was adjourned. ItJltl~ I ~ Secretary 6- April 30,I958 A special meeting of the Stillwater Recreation Board was held at the city hall on April 30,1958. Present were:C.D.Bourdaghs,Arthur Bartkey,and William L.O'Brien. HarolM Carrier applied for the job of caretaker at the Legion Beach.The board said they would notify him of there decision as others were expected to apply. The following were named as life guards for this year: LILY LAKE BEACH Gene Lampi Joan Lange W.S.I. S.L.S. 1'5.00 I60~OO Legion Beach Walter Kurth Carol Hanson I i' S.L.S. S.L.S. 170.00 I70.00 On motion passed the J.E.S. S.L.S. W.S.1. A sum of :~5.oo will be pay for life guards was raised: I60.00 I65.00 I70.00 payed for each years experience. On motion passed Harold Lange was rehired as lily lake caretaker for the sum of $170.00~. ~, The next meeting will be held May 14,1958. On motion the meeting was adjourned. JJL .; ~~ Secretary e May I4,1958 A regular meeting of the Stillwater Recreation Board was held at the City Hall May 14,1958. Present were:C.D.Bourdaghs,Arthur Bartkey,Lawrence Junker,William L.O'Brien. Legion Beach:C.D.Bourdaghs After a lengthly discussion,Mr.Bourdaghs was authorized to hire a caretaker at the Legion Beach, as Mr.McKnight iesigned. Lily Lake Beach:Mr.Bartkey IvIr.Bartkey was au~horized to get the bottom of the life boat fixed and painted.He also will get a new lock for the front door. Mr.Bartkey is in charge of getting volunteer workers to fix the raft at Lily Lake Beach. Skating:Mr.Junker Mr. Junker recommended that an award be given to the following boys for services during the past skating season: Lawrence Stefanski~-------$IO.OO Peter Hoffoss-----~-------$IO.OO Jack Charlsen-------------$35.00 This motion was passed. LeRoy Christensen was authorized to schedule all softball and baseball games to be played in Stillwater. On motion the meeting was adjourned. O'Brien. Legion Beach:~~.Bourdaghs On motion made and passed Mr.Bourdaghs is to see that the residence at the Legion Beach is boarded up and the beach~de ready for the winter. P'..r.Bourdaghs recommended that two diving boards be purchasedfor the Legmon Beach and one,for Lily Lake. This was tabled to our next meeting so that an account can be made as to how much we have left in our budj:it. Skating:Mr.Junker '*~ The city ~~oardwill furnish coal -tor the skating rinks,which 'will be at the same locations as last 'Tear. Mr.Junker is to send out invitati6ns to Civic groupsof this area to attend the next meeting of the recreation board for the purpose of aiding inthe function.of the skating program. On motion passed Mr.Bourdaghs is to.:.submit a report on our current expenditures.at the next meeting. e Mr.O'Brien recommended that the city purchase two Aqua Lungs,one for each beaCh,at a cost of approx~ imately $I30.00 each as be used as an added safity precaution at our beaches.After discussing this it was tabled to the next meeting. Present were:C.D.Bourdaghs,Lawrence Junker,William L. O'Brien and James Simpson. A budget for 1959 was set up and will be sumitted to the council for approval. The total budget ffiTh~ounted to $IO,720.00.This includes approximately $2000.00 for a new dock at Lily Lake,and approximately $Iag~OO for three new diving boards at the beachesr.,o05.ob oOn motion passed ,it was decided to buy two Aqua- lungs at a cost of approximately $300.00 as an added safety precaution at the two beaches. Present were: C.D.Bourdaghs,"~.L.'J I Brien, Lawrence Junker,Robert Ludwig,and James Simpson A budget of $10,720,00 was approved by the city councilfor the Stillwater Recreation Board for the year 1959. The breakdown for the budget is as follows: Playgrounds------------------- $600.00 Lily lake Beach-------------- $5000.00 Legion Beach---~------------- $3820.00 Skating---------------------- $I300.00 IO,720.00 This encludes a new dock at Lily Lake costing approx- imately $2,000.00 and three new diving boards costing approximately $1000. 00. Two of the above going to the Legion Beach and one to Lily Lake. e Mr. Junker was authorized to pay Bill Charlsten and Art Junker $0.50 an hour at Lily Lake. Frank Dearborn is to be paid $I.50 an hour to sweap off all rinks. Al Ritzer will plow the rinks when the snow is heavy enough. Bob Ludwig was appointed by the board to bring a report on possible methods of construction for the new dock at Lily Lake~ the next meeting.
