Chairwoman Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Present: Chair Johnson, Commissioners Brandt, Macswain, Quie, Councilmember Polehna Absent: Commissioners Christensen, Souter and Weidner Staff: Parks Superintendent Grode APPROVAL OF MINUTES Possible approval of minutes of July 25, 2022 meeting Motion by Commissioner Brandt, seconded by Commissioner Macswain, to approve the minutes of the July 25, 2022 meeting. All in favor. OPEN FORUM Mark Olene (?), Stillwater Area Elks Lodge, said he is gathering information and contacts for a batters up program for boys and girls ages 5-15 that the Elks hope to hold in August 2023. NEW BUSINESS There was no new business. UNFINISHED BUSINESS There was no unfinished business. DISCUSSION ITEMS Staff Updates Mr. Grode gave project updates: the playgrounds at Meadowlark and Anez Ridge are nearly completed and trails connecting to the streets will be started this fall; tiles have been ordered for the tennis courts at Settlers Park and the project should be completed this fall. Someone drove on the public works ballfield causing significant damage. The field was closed to make repairs and soccer was moved to Millbrook West Park. Upcoming events are the Fall Art Festival the first weekend of October, and Harvest Fest the following weekend. Regarding the cleanup discussed at the January and February meetings, the City has removed some items that were abandoned on City property and will continue this as time allows. He will update the resident who brought this to the City's attention. Preliminary work on the Chestnut Plaza project has started. Chair Johnson asked what is the relationship between the City and rain gardens, and Mr. Grode replied that some rain gardens are maintained by the City, others by civic groups such as Pollinator Friendly and Sustainable Stillwater. Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting August 22, 2022 Commission Member Updates There were no Commission Member updates. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Commissioner Brandt seconded by Commissioner Macswain, to adjourn. All in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 6:17 p.m. to the park tour where no official business was conducted. The Commission toured Teddy Bear Park, Old Athletic Field, Washington Square Park, PW Ballfield, and Boutwell Cemetery.
