Gambling Houses" was placed on its second read and rend and adopted section by
section, when the chair put the question,"Shall this Ordinance pass":and upon
roll call was was duly adopted.
On motion of Councilman Lavine a vote of thanks was tendered the fire-
men who assisted in Renovating an&varnishing the ,furniture in the:CityJWIL.

On motion of Councilman Schaffer a dance permit was granted to the
Catholic Order of Forresters.
The budget for the Stillwater band which was presented at the last
meeting was taken up,and the matter was deferred until some future meeting.
Bids for the City printing fez the ensuing year was taken up and
ae-there was only one bid, that.of the Stillwater Post -Messenger, action was
deferred until the next regular meeting.
Report of City Treasurer for the month of December was presented and
ordered filed.

Meeting called for the repose of considering the proposed plan for
the approach to the ner bridge about to be constructed across Lake St.I the

the Highway departments of the States of 'Minnesota and Wisconsin,afd a necessa-
ry landscaping of Lowell park in connection therewith.
A plan and report was submitted by Messrs. 'Wilson and Converse,
members of the Park Board.
Mr. Arthur a. Nichols,landscape architect of Minneavolis,who had
prepared the plans, and Mr. Mason of St. Paulon associate were --:resent and
explained fully the plan and its special features.
A large representation of the Stillwat,r Association was also present
and a lengthy and `hourough discussion was had , and it being the unanimous opinion

The Chief of Police reported having revoked the Soft Drink license
issued to Ernest Hoy at No. 492 South Main Street.
On motion of Councilman Lavine the application of E. A. Magnuson for a
Soft Drink license at No. 402 So. Main Street was laid over.
On motion of Councilman Schaffer an increase of $10.00 per month was
grarted to Herman F. Lange, Captain of Police.

had been on for trial in the District Court and the Court directed a verdict for

r^, Report of City Treasurer for the month of May was read and ordered filed.
The Mayor announced the appointment of Carl Hohlt, as special police to take
��.. the place of Joseph 0. Kearney, resigned,was on motion of Councilman Schaffer
confirmed.
Mr. Roy Hooley was present and asked the City to aid him financially in
rebuilding sidewalk in front of his butcher shop at the corner of Fourth and
Churchill streets,and the matter was referred to the City Engineer, Councilmen
McLaughlin, Schaffer and Ryden to investigate and report at next meeting.
City Engineer reported he had ordered a street fludher at a cost of $350.00,
from the City of Minneapolis.
On motion of Councilman Schaffer the City Engineer was authorized to act
in conjunction with the Northern Pacific Ry. Co., and tthe acBoardto fhe of County Commission-
ers in repairing the so-called Browns Creek Bridge,
exceed 8500.00.
Council then proceeded to canvass the vot., cast for City officers at the
Primary Election held June 16th, which resulted as follows;
For Mayor; G. A. Sheils received 1123 votes: Peter C. Lund received 863
votes and Nels Mace received 264 votes.
Foi' Councilmen; Chester 7. Schaffer received 1094 votes; K. M Lavine
received 850 votes; Charles L. Christiansen received 734 votes; Albert Taylor
received 707 votes and I. J. Daly received 429 votes, andon motion of Councilmen
McLaughlin, G. 9. Sheils and Peter C. Lund were declared as the nominees for
Mayor and Chesterm Schaffer, K. M Lavine, Charles L. Christianson and Albert
Taylor were declared as the nominees for Councilmen;
Resolution on bills was duly adopted;

City of Stillwater, issued July 1,1921,will become due and payable at the First
National Bank of Stillwater, ilinn.,ane
Whereas it will be necessary for the City of Stillwater to provide for the
payment and redemption of said bonds which become due and payable as aforesaid,
Therefore, Be it resolved by the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund of the
City of Stillwater,that a. warrant be made and the same is hereby ordered drawn on
the City Treasurer from the Sinking Fund of said City and to be used only for
the purpose of redeeming and paying the said 86000.00 bonds due July 1,1930,as

boys of Stillwater and Washington County,
call of the immortal Lincoln for volunteers to fight in defense of the Union in the
Civil War,by enlisting in Company B of the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry at
Fprt Snelling,composed of men of fighting qualities,Caring and bravery in battle
made them famous the world over.
Nine were killed in battle.Some were rounded and permanently injured,and
deaths reduced the number to 34.
The 34 formed The Last Monts Club 45 years ago.
Annual dinners were thereafter given in July,the anniversary of the Battle

After due considerationnof the various bide,by the Council, Councilman Lavine
moved that the contract be awarded to W. 8. Mott Go.,for the furnishing of said
fire truck and equipment in accordance with their bid and specifications and the
proper officers were instructed to enter into a contract with said W. S. Nott Co.,
for the furnishing of said equipment,which motion was duly seconded by Councilman
fa Schaffer, voted upon and carried.
City Engineers, estimate of wor': done by Peppard & Fulton Company in
constructing and paving the approach to the interstate bridge was on motion of
Councilman Schaffer approved,
Counoil then proceeded to canvass the vote for City officers cast at
the election held on Nov., 4th which resulted as follows,based on the official
