On motion of Coubatlman Loeber a Dance Permit was ordered issued to the Elks Foot Ball team. On motion of Councilmen Loeber,Soft Drink Licensee were ordered issued to William Retalaff,Brenner Brig Co.,A. A. Fraser,Olof L. Anderson, John Ciarey Ries Drug Co.,J. L. Monty,Annie M. 8mith,H. H. On motion -of Councilman Jarchow a pool table license was granted to the Stillwater Club. On motion of Councilman Berglund Soft Drink Licensee were granted to Percy Sherrard,Ceorge A. Carleop,Frank A. EitchellChas. E. Glaser, A. C. Metnke, Leo R. Buokley,Chae. J. Smith Paul Gelhar and Joseph Marlow. On motion of Councilman Gaines the appointment of George M. Vollmer as patrolman was approved. Oath of office of George M. Vollmer filed. On motion of Councilman Jarohow the extension agreement between Ed. Carlson and the City of Stillwater was approved. Communication from the Minnesota Tax Conference was read and ordered filed. Report of collections of the Municipal Court was read and ordered filed. Report of City Electrical Inspector and reports of City Engineer of cost of General 'Maintenance of streets and cost of construction for the year 1923 were read and ordered filed. The City Attorney reported that the Railroad and Warehouse Commission had granted permission to the :orthern Pacific Railroad to discontinue their Sunday train service between this City and White Bea' Luke. :he City Attorney reported that Mr ,I. 0. Bannister was desirous of having his land in the northern part of the City detached from the City,and the matter was left with the City Attorney for further information. Report of receipts of the Municipal Court and report of receipts and disbursements by the City Clerk and City Treasurer were read and ordered filed. Contract and Bond of Edward P.arlsoc for constructing sidewalks on various streets were on motion of Councilman Berglund approved, Report of Public Examiner was read and ordered filed. An ordinance relating to Auetioneera' license was placed on its first reading and laid over until the next regular meeting. The matter of grading and improving north Main Street was takeb up and 'here being no objections made Councilman Berglund offered a resolution covering :•aid matter. he matter of sprinkling streets with tervia was taken up and there betas no objections it was decided to proceed with the work and Councilman Osalesa offered a resolution covering said matter, On motion of Councilman Oaalaas an appropriation of 4150.00 was made for the Memorial Day celebration. Petition from residents on South Fifth Street aektnf for improvements on said street between Willard and Fifth Streets wsa read and on motion of Councilman Berglund tho same was referred to the City Engineer. Plans etc for constructing retaining wall and sewer on Ro. Minutes of last meeting read and approved. Mr. Blair made a statement to the Council that the City motor -cycle police had run into his automobile and inured the same to the amount of S350.00, and the matter was referred to tho City Attorney to investigate. Bids for grading, graveling and straightening P.c. Main Street •+ere opened as follows; A. F. Lehrer,$2502.00 Chas. Pankonin S2803.00. On motion of Councilman Looter the contract was awarded to A. F. Lehrer,and the proper officer were instructed to enter into a contract with him,on behalf of the City for the performance of said contrast. On motion of Councilman T.oeber the bid of The Barrett Co., for furnishing tarvia and sprea.linr the sane or. the streets during the season of 1924,was accepted and the proper officers were instructed to enter into a contraot with they for the furnishing said material and performing the work of :p eading the same on the streets. Coma^.nieation from Wells -Dickey Trust Co., stating that they desired to make a charge for handling the bonds and interest coupons on the S50,000. bond issue purchased by them,and on motion of Councilman Berglund the City Clerk was instructed to notify them that the City would not pay any charges in connection with said matter. on motion of Councilman Oaaleas a r-ol table license wns granted to Frank A. Mitchell. On motion of Councilman Berglund the City Engineer was instructed to have a street light placed at the corner of South Fifth and Orleans Streets. Councilman Loeber offered a resolution ap;:roving plane etc for construct- ing a sewer in North Second Street from Mulberry to Linden Street and fixing the time for hearing on said matter as June 17th 1924 at 7.30 P.M. On motion of Councilman Berglund the City Clerk was instructed to adver- ties for bids for a street roller and scarifier,bids to be made returnable at a special meeting to be held May 27th 1924 at 7;30 P.P., which is hereby called for the purpose of receiving and acting On said bide. On motion of Councilman Berglund an Ordinance entitled "an Ordinance to amend an ordinanoe regulating licenses in the City of Stillwater " was placed on iti second reading and read and adopted section by section,when the chair put the question "shall this Ordinance pass" and upon roll call the same was duly passed and adopted. The matter of considering the bade for a street roller and Scarifier wee taken up,and after due consideration Councilman Loeber moved that the City purchase a 14 ton special motor roller with scarifier from The Buffalo -Springfield Roller Co. for the sum of a57•po less 990.00 allowance on the old roller,and that the proper officers be instructed to enter into a contract, on behalf of the City, with the Buffalo -Springfield Roller Cc., for the purchase of said roller, which motion was duly seconded, voted upon and carried.
