On motion of Alderman Wells the bids fear furnishing coal to the City were
opened and rend, as follows:-
J. J. Kilty, 100 tons or more of screened Yougb.c'al for $4,80 per ton.
Levi Thompson, 100 tons of screened lump Yough. coal for ✓f4.95 per ton.
J. F. O'Rourke, 100 tons of screened Yough. coal for $499.O0.
On motion of Alderman Veils the contract was awarded to J. J. Kilty,he
being the lowest bidder.
City Engineers estimate No. 301 on construction of So. Holcombe and
80. Martha Street Calera, showing amount dug Irvin Roes to be $192.00 was on
motion of Aldermen King a proved and ordered flied.
Aldermen Murphy for the Street Committee reported that the eommi ttee and
City attorney had lnterviewlhe Board:of County Commisslone:8 and also had made
a trip over the several roads leading Into the City and shown the roads to the
Commissioners and had succeeded in getting an appropriation of $1500 for repairing
certain roads leading into the City, and on motion of Alderman Wells tbe report
was occet ted and the City Treasurer wee instructed to keep said money in a
seperate fund.
Report of Street Committee showing that they had secured certain places
on private property where hitching posts and poles could Le erected, sec' also
recommending that hitching posts and poles be installed at said places and also
Chet hitching poets and poles be erected on Olive street beweeen Main street end
Union Alley, wasiOn motion of Alderman King, accepted end ordered flied and the
Street Committee was Instructed to have such posts sad poles erected es shown
by their recormendstion in their- report.
Communication from Fred r. Foster, grsntine the City permission to erect
hltchine posts and poles on the ao-tailed Foster property On the east side of
north Main Street was read, and on motion of Alderman King, same was accepted and
Ordered filed, and the City Clerk was instructed to extend the thanks of the CitY
Council t0 Mr. Foster for the privilege grantee.

Corn ttee be instructed to investigate the need of lights throughout the entire

Alderman King stated that he believed the Council had acted hastily in
letting a contract for the paving of the whole of the Levee front, and moved
that the matter be referred to the Street Committee to confer with kr. Ef11tt,
to uncertain waet arrangements could be made to have said contract modified..
On motion of Alderman King the Street Committee was Instructed to confer
with the M1nr:espolls and St.. Paul Suburban Railway Co., with reference to
paving between their tracks on So. Third Street, provided the CStY desired t0
pave one. half in width of said Street, and report on sue at next meeting.
On motion of Alderman King the City Engineer was Instructed to ascertain
what sewer and water connections were needed on to. Third e:treet,before the
street is paved, and report on wine at next meeting.

City Attorney reported on taxes to, on the so-called Este Smith property
and stated that Horsey em1 th, the only surviving heir would teke $500 for
his equity in the property,snd on motion of Alderman Wells, the matter was
referred to the special Com. on Armory.
The Sewer Committee t0 whom had been referred the several bids for con-
struction of Cetera, reported that Tease; t" Lanforth we;"e the lowest bidders
on both sewers and recommended tbet the contracts be awarded to them, and
on motion of Aldermen Burtzlaff the contracts were so awarded to Fr'iser A
